WordPress 2.0 Experiences
Currently running: 2.2 - almost beta 4/15/2007 build
I will keep a log here of my experience with 1.6. This site is currently running 1.6 using the same database as the other scottp.net blogs.
I have seen some definite improvements, but as always with early stuff - you get to experience some ‘quirks’ as well.
It doesn’t help that I am also using an ‘alpha’ theme (Squibble). But hey, I am a person who likes to play with new stuff…
First Impressions
- The new WYSIWYG editor for writing posts/pages is a great improvement!
- I like the fact that Image support has tighter integration
- At least with these alpha versions - you almost have to have Firefox to get around in the administration and posting. I’m sure that will improve as time goes on. Not that I’m complaining - I use Firefox on my primary computers. However, the home pc only had IE since it is shared with the family - that has now been ‘fixed’… :>)
- The administration interface is very sloooooww. (Now has been fixed in this build)

Well, by accident, I upgraded the main www.scottp.net site a couple of days ago. It was running 1.5 and when I went to start copying the new Wordpress build over to what was supposed to be this site - I realized I was in the wrong site. Oh well, I went ahead and finished the install - performed the db upgrade and presto! Thank goodness everything went well. The only site left running 1.5 is the podcast site - which I will leave until a final 2.0 release.

Upgraded to ‘RC2′ and so far so good. Even though it appears Wordpress is moving rapidly toward the next version, things are looking pretty good. A lot of people seem to be concerned on the testers mailing list - claiming problems being encountered are things you would see in a beta, not a release candidate. I dunno, the WYSIWYG editor seems to be appearing faster - which was my biggest complaint…

Site is now upgraded to 2.0 Final. Again, so far - so good! I’ll add more as I experience it.

Moving past ‘production’ 2.0 code - updates are still being made daily (One would argue that 2.0 still needed a little more work before going final). However, it appears to still run well - no problems so far…
3/8/2006
Updated Squibble (theme) to beta 1.1
5/23/2006
Upgraded WordPress to 2.1 - alpha1 (today’s daily build)
9/14/2006
At some point I have updated to 2.1 alpha3 and didn’t record the event here. The Squibble theme was also updated (and I accidentally deleted my custom logo) to Beta 2
4/15/2007 - 2.2-almost-beta
Upgrade went pretty well - Ultimate tag warrior caused the site not to come up but was easily fixed by upgrading UTW.
